See those huge smile in Kyle? |
Kyle had always wanted to join the McDonald’s Kiddie Crew Workshop for the longest time. Perhaps he was about 3 or 4 years old when he first learned about it. But back then, aside from thinking he was too young to follow instructions, I thought, what’s fun about working in a fast food? So I did not let him join.
Every summer that followed thereafter, I would either have something different in mind which I’d think would be more interesting than becoming a kiddie crew, say an arts and craft lessons, piano or sports related activity like basketball clinic—activities that would make Kyle’s summer productive. All through those years, Kyle never ceases to ask if he would be allowed to become a kiddie crew.

For this particular summer, Kyle and I had a heart-to-heart talk. I’ve always made it a point to let him speak his mind out so we could both compromise before we arrive at a decision. I believe we communicate better this way. Since he’s now eight and an incoming Grade four, I asked him what he wanted to do and how is he going to spend his summer vacation. I’m no longer surprised when he mentioned about the kiddie crew workshop again. He had actually thought I’m going to beg off for what seemed like the nth time—but he told me he was glad later that he had tried to ask.
Yes, I finally gave in to his desire and made him join McDonald’s Kiddie Crew workshop at the branch nearest us—Metrolane. I never thought it would be cute seeing kids greeting you with genuine smiles and eagerness on their faces saying, “Welcome to Mcdonald’s, or after serving your meal they would altogether shout, “Thank you for coming, See us again.” Kyle even had a batchmate as young as three years old.

The McDonald’s Kiddie Crew Workshop is a 5-day summer program specially designed for kids to enjoy and have fun while learning through different activities. For each workshop day, Kiddie Crew members will get to experience the fun of greeting guests, manning the restaurant and drive-thru counters through on-floor training; showcase their skills through creative art workshops, and learn the importance of different values, from hardwork, discipline to teamwork, through values formation lessons and story telling activities. More than the fun activities lined up, the workshop is also a great way for kids to meet and make new friends.
The workshop’s fee is P550.00—inclusive of meals, uniform t-shirt, cap, backpack and completion certificate. Registration is ongoing until May 6, 2011. Remaining workshop schedule will be on April 25-29, May 2-6, May 9-13, May 16-20. A series of grand graduation will be held in major cities all over the country to recognize the achievements of all Kiddie Crew members and treat them to a day filled with exciting booths, games and tons of prizes.

There's Ms. Mimi doing a storytelling. |
And since I could clearly see in Kyle’s face that he’s enjoying his Kiddie Crew workshop at McDonalds, I might consider letting him join again next year. He went home the other day telling me stories of him manning the restaurant’s counter. He was able to realize that it was no joke to please every customer. Kyle says, “You really have to act fast, Atching (yes, he calls me that way, it’s my petname). It was quite difficult but it’s really fun to do.” With such statement, I wouldn’t be surprised if one day my dear Kyle would be applying for work at a fast food joint like McDonalds.
To apply, ask the manager-in-charge at any participating McDonald’s outlet near you or visit www.mcdonalds.com.ph
