DEPRESSION: FIGHT IT OUT!

It's a few weeks after the Christmas Season and a few weeks before the dreaded Valentine's Day. Believe it or not this means there are more lonely, depressed, suicidal people out here on earth than there are during the rest of the year.

Imagine the scenario: There's nothing like being surrounded by gleeful revelers and then family, relationships, my finances, my health, my career, my grades starts falling into pieces. Crumbles right before you. I am going to be alone and miserable.

The logic of downward spiral sounds somewhat funny but when you're the one affected, it ain't the case. It feels like an inescapable doom. Sure, despair is not something permanent. But you're not willing to share it with your friends who might just chastise you for being so "cheesy". Yes it is indeed a "peak season" for depression caused usually by marital relationship problems, depression, peer pressure, school and career challenges, difficulties adjusting to new environments and substance abuse.

I suppose everyone deals with stress and have problems of their own. But that's all part of life. For some reason it affects some more than others. At times, I had also been stressed when I set myself deadlines that are sometimes too impossible to meet and I would drive myself crazy trying to finish. It's not an all bad thing, though; sometimes it allows me to accomplish something great, though I have to wonder if I am also digging myself an early grave.

We will all have problems and stress will always be a part of our lives. But we shouldn't let it consume us or dictate how we live our lives. We should just accept it and handle it by learning to relax when we can and enjoy our quiet moments whenever they come along.
