Smiling happens without much thought. When you watch a friend do something silly or embarrassing, you smirk. When you crush asks you something that makes your heart skip, you can't help but grin. And when you are recognized for a job well done or you had aced an exam, you beam. Smiling is a very natural response that shares our happiness with others. Unbeknownst to many, smiling also triggers activity in your brain. Yep, there's a serious mind-body connection there, in your left frontal cortex to be exact, which is—not surprisingly—the area of your brain that registers happiness. Our face has 44 muscles that allow more than 5,000 different types of expressions, many of which are smiles. Unfortunately oral care is not a priority among Filipinos and we are facing a very serious situation. Based on a research study, 77% have never been to a dentist. This is an obvious severe health issue because it affects an individual's identity, confidence and productivity. The good news is that an initiative is being made with the combine sources of Oral B, University of the Philiplines' College of Dentistry and UP Dental Alumni Association, Smile Pilipinas came about.
Smile Pilipinas is a foundation taking an initiative to uplift the state of oral health in the country. It's been organizing projects that directly address issues through outreach projects and oral health education. It is also establishing a brighter future for oral health through early education among children and prevention through public health programs.
With its ambassador and oral health advocate actress Iza Calzado, Smile Pilipinas calls on every Filipinos--both here and those abroad--to take part and help to spread the word on getting better oral health. The program has five fundamental messages: 1) Our smiles are fundamental to our identity, 2) Let’s bring oral health within reach of all Filipinos, 3) Everyone can easily help improve oral health in the country, 4) We need to take care of our children’s teeth, and 5) We should all practice better oral health care habits.

You may also seek out deeper participation in the said foundation's activities through membership. You may also volunteer for Smile Pilipinas projects and programs.
Smiling is a great way to make yourself stand out while helping your body to function better. Smile to improve your health, your stress level, and your attractiveness. Smiling is just one fun way to live longer. We are drawn to people who smile. There is an attraction factor. We want to know a smiling person and figure out what is so good.
