Ai Ai and son Sancho Delas Alas together in GMA 7's 'Let The Love Begin'

I’m not really into celebrities but because of my job as part of the editorial team of an entertainment portal, Philippine Showbiz Republic (PSR), I was given the opportunity to attend press conferences, blog conferences, and basically get to know more about different showbiz personalities. I recently had the chance to get to know the Philippine comedy queen, Ms. Ai Ai Delas Alas up close and personal. I grew up watching her movies and it’s nice to get to know someone from showbiz who isn’t so full of herself. Despite of all the box office films and achievements she has amassed all these years, Ms. Ai Ai’s really very down-to-earth and easy to talk to. She had just made that ‘big leap’ to GMA 7, but this early, her fans will be happy to know that there are a lot of projects already lined up for her. Starting off with Ms. Ai Ai’s first project under the Kapuso network, the primetime romantic-drama series ‘Let The Love Begin’ which will have its initial telecast on Monday, May 4, after ‘Pari Ko’y’ on GMA 7.

“I’m happy and blessed to have been given this project. ‘Let The Love Begin’ tackles the life of a radio disc jockey. I’ll be paired here with Gardo Verzosa. We’ve worked together in Seiko films before, it’s actually the first time we’re being paired but we’ve also been friends from way back,” says Ms. Ai Ai.

Her eldest son, Sancho Delas Alas will also be playing a role in ‘Let The Love Begin.’ It has always been Sancho’s dream to become an actor. “I’m very thankful that I was given the chance to work with my Mama (Ai Ai) on my first project. It’s part of my bucketlist. I’m one of Mama’s super-duper fans,” says Sancho who’s now under contract at GMA Artist Center.

Sancho originally auditioned for a reality show but unfortunately he was not able to make it. “Yes, I had auditioned for Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) before. Of course, I felt disappointed (not being able to make it) but I realized that God had other plans for me. There are other opportunities that has opened after that, including ‘Let The Love Begin,’ where I got the chance to work with Mama.”

According to Sancho, he’d always wanted to join showbiz but it’s only now that Ms. Ai Ai had given her blessings for him to do so. Ms. Ai Ai says she wanted her son to finish his studies first. “Since I’ve finished my Culinary Arts course at CCA Manila, she finally gave her permission and said yes,” relates Sancho.  

According to Sancho, he wanted to earn his keep and eventually start a restaurant business. “I want to use my earnings in showbiz as my initial capital. When I’ve saved enough, that’s when I’ll start my restaurant business.”

Ms. Ai Ai is proud to say that she’s able to raise all her children well even if she’s a single mom. 

Aside from taping for the series ‘Let The Love Begin,’ Ms. Ai Ai’s also very hands-on with her upcoming concert dubbed as ‘Ai Ai Delas Alas: Ai Am Who Ai Am Thanksgiving Concert’ which is happening on May 16, at The Skydome, SM North Edsa, 8PM.
