Shangri-La Plaza Mall ushers the Chinese New Year with acclaimed films for the 10th Spring Film Festival 2016

In celebration of the rich Chinese culture and heritage, Shangri-La Plaza, the leading lifestyle destination in the country, ushers in the Year of the Fire Monkey
as it hosts the annual Spring Film Festival which is now on its 10th year from January 29 to February seven at the Cinema 4 of Shang Cineplex.

The Ateneo de Manila University’s Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies in cooperation with Cultural Section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Confucius Institute, Ateneo Celadon, Film Developments Council of the Philippines and Credit Suisse has put together and came up with a line-up of highly acclaimed films to further encourage appreciation of Chinese language and culture in the Philippine society.

The 10th Chinese Spring Film Festival carefully selected 10 films of different genres for this year namely: Coming Home, Ange Vera, Qui Xi, Wild Horse, East Wind Rain, At that Summer, Full Circle, Lost in Thailand, Back to 1942, and Say Yes.

Here are the movies and their synopsis:

Coming Home by renowned director Zhang Yimou presents a poignant story of a couple, played by stars Gong Li and Chen Daoming, separated by the dire events surrounding the Cultural Revolution.

Angel Vera is taken from the real-life experiences of an 8-year-old Italian girl which traces her journey and struggles to realize her dream of becoming a Beijing opera performer.

Qui Xi is set during the wartime in Guangzhou. Qui Xi makes her living as a Tanka or boat person. She would later find herself falling in love with an undercover communist agent working for Kuomintang regime.

Wild Horse is the story of Geza, called ‘wild horse’ of his fellow villagers on the Tibetan Plateau and his quest to win in a marathon to save his youngest sister’s life.

East Wind Rain is a period darama set in the 1940s in Shanghai. The story revolves around An Ming, who secures information on Japan’s intended attack on Pearl Harbor. He has a dangerous mission to deliver this said information to appropriate authorities.

At that Summer is an unlikely love story that blossomed between a kind young man and a pregnant girl abandoned by her lover.

Full Circle is about a retired bus driver named Ge whose life hasn’t gone as he imagined it would—his son by his first marriage doesn’t speak with him and he hasn’t been forced out of his own house. He later finds hope again thanks to a bunch of rebellious senior citizens living under the nursing home.

Lost in Thailand is a sequel to Raymond Yip’s Lost on Journey and it traces the rivalry between two ambitious business managers in competition for a revolutionary new technology, and the outrageous comedy of errors that resulted from this obsessive quest.

Back in 1942 reveals the story of North Henan landlord who embarks on a journey to Shan ‘Xi province during the 1942 famine, struggling to survive as war with Japan looms on the horizon.

Say Yes is an odd partnership cum romantic-comedy between two unlikely individuals: a successful and popular cellist and a construction worker. But then they’ve found the perfect match on each other.
