I love walking. It’s
the only activity that I enjoy apart from swimming. Walking gives me a sense of
“me-time” especially since I am moving at a slower pace. I’m able to look
around, observe people, discover small cafes, street art, interesting graffiti
and other things that would normally be blur when you’re inside a moving
vehicle—and to me, that’s pretty relaxing. Imagine my delight when I was
invited to cover a blog conference organized by ANCOP (Answering the Cry of
the Poor) called “Global Walk:
Beyond Your Walk, their Dreams” whose goal is to spend one Sunday morning
for an advocacy walk in order to send deserving children back to school. The
said event is slated to happen and break records on August 14, 2016 to be held at the SM Mall of Asia grounds (near Ecommerce Building along the Bay). Now
on its 6th year, ANCOP are expecting more people to lace up and join
them in their advocacy. They believe that taking a step will help make the
scholars dream to come true.
ANCOP began 12 years
ago in Canada when they thought of organizing an event where people of all ages
and all walks of life can participate in raising funds for education and
likewise create an awareness about ANCOP. ANCOP is Couple’s for Christ’s work
with the poor initiative.

ANCOP Scholar Anilov Martin shares his story |
During the blog conference, two ANCOP scholars also shared how the said initiative has helped them as they struggled with their lives as students who both belong from the margins of the society. Grade school ANCOP Scholar Anilov Martin recalls how his scholarship has helped him to continue striving harder in order to get good grades. He says that it has made him realized that being poor should never become a hindrance towards one’s success. De La Salle College of Saint Benilde ANCOP college scholar Julie Ann Burio says amen to that. Burio herself shared her own difficulties in trying to make things meet. “I’m grateful to ANCOP for being instrumental in helping me to achieve my life goals. I know that upon finishing my studies, I’d be able to help my parents earn a living. I know I have a promising future because of their help,” shares Burio during the blogcon recently.

100% will be given to the scholarship program. There will be simultaneous walks
in major cities in the country as well as in the USA, Canada and Australia
which will also happen on August 14.
Newly elected VP Leni
Robredo had also confirmed her participation in the said event. There will also
be other activities such as showing of Pluma TV series (as shown on ABS-CBN Channel 2 before the Sunday TV Mass) among many others plus
since it’s a Sunday, there will also be a Holy Mass to be officiated by the
bishop of Marikina. It promises to be a different fun-filled family day for
everyone!
