August 9, 2012
would have marked Whitney
Houston’s 53rd birthday. As we all know,
the singer/actress tragically passed in 2012 just one day before the Grammy’s. Fans of the late great singer
will be happy to note that DMC Entertainment Production Management takes you
back down the memory lane. As a tribute to the late soulful singer, DMC Entertainment
Production brings The Whitney Houston Show 2016 in the Philippines featuring
Belinda Davids.
The late Whitney Houston |
Houston was an
influence on every major female pop star, and on the TV talent shows that now dominate
the music industry. For young girls like me back then in the 90's, belting out Houston’s
soulful rendition of her hit song "I Will Always Love You" in our
bathrooms is something that will always be a happy childhood memory. Admittedly, Houston's "The Greatest Love Of All" was one of the first few songs I've learned to sing as a kid. It was a
clear indication that Whitney Houston was indeed the most important pop singer
of the last quarter-century.
Known for her
hit songs "Saving All My Love For You,” the upbeat record-breaking seven
US No 1 single “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” to such amazing ballads like “Didn’t
We Almost Have It All” and “I Know Him So Well.” All of these songs catapulted Whitney
Houston as the biggest female star in the world.
Co-starring as
a threatened diva with Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard (1992), their characters'
interracial attraction was never an issue. Whitney was beautiful and dully nice
enough to be America's first black sweetheart. She was an element in
normalizing African-Americans in the mainstream which ended with Obama in the
White House. "I Will Always Love You", the 12 million-selling single
from The Bodyguard's soundtrack, was the pinnacle of her powerhouse vocal
style. For Elton John, Whitney Houston has one of the most beautiful voices he’s
ever heard in his lifetime.

Since Whitney Houston's tragic passing in 2012, her timeless music and
awe-inspiring voice have received renewed appreciation from her legion of
long-time fans and garnered a new generation of admirers who appreciate
Whitney's unique voice, undeniable talent and pervasive charm as a welcome
contrast to the artists prevalent in today's contemporary music. Thus The Whitney Houston Show was conceptualized. In preparation for such an anticipated show, as part of Houston's legacy, Showtime Management dedicated a year to finding the right star to fill in the big shoes that Houston had left vacant. From more than 15,000 hopefuls who had auditioned from 12 countries, it was accomplished South African vocalist Belinda Davids whose voice perfectly sounds like the late Houston's. Davids was handpicked as the right star to pay reverence to Houston with her carefully crafted renditions of Houston's hit songs. In addition to having a voice described as “jaw-droppingly similar” to the pop diva, Davids openly acknowledges that Houston is her personal idol and was the original inspiration for her own career when she began singing at the age of 14.

"It was such a privilege to be able to be given this opportunity to sing and perform her songs before her loyal fans from around the globe," says Davids. Davids promises a really good show where people will relive and enjoy the music of the late music diva. "I want people to come (to the concert) and remember Whitney when she was at the top of her game and when she was fabulous," adds Davids.

Go', 'Didn't We Almost Have It All', 'I'm Every Woman', 'One Moment In Time', 'I
