Monga is now in the Philippines! |
When one mentions the word Taiwan, the first thing that
comes to mind would probably be having a milk tea, but mark my word, once you
get hold of Monga—Taiwan’s number 1 fried chicken cutlet chain, you’d surely be
craving for more and probably pair your favorite milk tea with this humongous
chicken chops from Monga which incidentally recently opened its first
Philippine store at the basement of SM Megamall [just across the food court,
right beside the escalator in Mega A].
We have to thank the people behind the Vikings Group for
being instrumental in bringing the goodness of Taiwan’s most popular chicken
cutlet in the Philippine shore. Known for their line of buffet restaurants, The
Vikings Group believes that Monga will also be patronized well by Filipinos who
are naturally foodies at heart.

Monga is patterened after Taiwan’s night markets. Nono Chen,
a renowned Taiwanese celebrity and Monga founder flew all the way from Taiwan
to welcome Filipinos into the store opening for a full experience of the place
down to its taste.

I’ve had experienced Monga myself and I’m telling you it’s
not your typical boneless fried chicken. For one, it’s 2-inches thick fried
chicken fillets which are marinated with honey, dipped in batter instead of the
usual dry flour and then dried to perfection. It’s flavorful on its own [even
the white meat alone] with or without its crispy skin. They offer more chicken
cutlet choices, more daily steals, and some new drinks to try too. Be warned
though: Monga’s chicken cutlets are big on size and big on flavor as well.

Just to let you know Monga's chicken cutlet is as huge as a hand |

Oozing with cheese and tomato overload, Monga's Chee-z is a must-try |
Their Taiwanese Style Chicken Poppers are boneless chicken
bites with salt and pepper coating. Even without any dipping sauce, it can
stand well on its own. The best part? It’s not greasy at all. Every order on
Monga is great for sharing with two or more friends unless you want to be fully
satiated that you feel your belly’s about to burst.

Monga’s The King aren’t lying when they say it’s king in
size and flavor. Each piece is about the size of one’s hand. Although for me,
it’s literally bigger than your face. And I’m not kidding when I said that. You
have to see it for yourself. But more importantly, the chicken cutlets are
juicy, very tender with deliciously crispy skin. I also love their Taiker
chicken [peppered with seaweed]. If that chicken’s got your mouth watering but
you still want to try to eat Monga’s other menu, I highly recommend that you
wash them with Orange Green Tea Drink for a palate cleanse.

Even if chicken isn’t exactly your thing, Monga has other
stuff for you to try: Fried Broccoli, fries with plum powder or seaweed fries
or if you’re feeling healthy, you can try their Fried King Oyster Mushroom
[which I highly recommend too].

If that sounds like a lot, that’s because it is—but save
some for Monga’s best-selling Chee-z Signature Chicken cutlet. It’s available
in original and spicy variants. This is basically any cheese lovers’ dream. You
can order their chicken cutlets ala carte or order a cup for rice. Don’t get
this unless you’re all caps H-U-N-G-R-Y. Other gut-busting options include
Monga chicken wings, fried chicken skin, Monga Nuggets, Monga crispy chicken,
Hot chick and signature fries. You can order their chicken cutlets ala carte or
order a cup for rice.

I also tried their Black Dragon Oolong Bubba Milk Tea, Green
Dragon Matcha Latte, Grapefruit Green Tea and tasted Jasmine Green Tea Milk Tea
Foam. Unlike their many milk tea counterparts that are too sweet, I’m glad
Monga’s take on Taiwanese milk tea are just right on the palate. I couldn’t resist
indulging on their chewy bubba pearls.

I’m actually smacking
my lips just writing about it now. I look forward in going back there and
hopefully, they’re going to have a branch somewhere near my place soon. I’m not
surprised I’ve gotten myself pretty full all over again. But as I write this
blog entry, I can’t wait to go back for more.
