Red Bull KTM Factory Racing riders race 100 kph souped-up “Kra-Tae” tractors ahead of Thailand GP

Heading into the highly anticipated Thailand Grand Prix weekend, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing legends Brad Binder and Jack Miller swapped their KTM RC16 bikes for something more agricultural.

At a remote Buriram farm, Binder and Miller raced their stand-up Kra-Tae tractors at speeds up to 100 kph, navigating a series of comical challenges that tested their agility and coordination.

After Binder triumphed in a hilariously bumpy first showdown through muddy puddles around the makeshift circuit, Miller secured the second victory in the exhilarating high-speed drag race.

Playful Rivalry Between Teammates in Thailand

The unserious challenge served as the perfect warm up for what is shaping up to be another thrilling MotoGP race weekend in Thailand. Reflecting on the unserious race experience, Binder said, “Initially, the toughest challenge for us riding these things was to keep the throttle in your hand. Each time it hits a bump, I end up dropping it and then you have to try and fish it out the front. The second challenge was to figure out how far you need to push the bar to actually turn. But anyway, it was really cool!”

The South African racer also said, “My favorite part of today was probably just doing something different to be honest. It’s not often we get to race anything for fun, just to have a good time and not worry. So, it was really cool to do.”

Miller echoed the same sentiments about the rice tractor, emphasizing that he found turning left was more challenging than turning right. He also shared his reaction upon seeing the rice tractors stating, “They were fantastic! First thought, it spun me out a little bit. Seeing such a little engine with a little turbo hanging off the side was really cool.”

“I enjoyed everything from the circuit race to the drag race, just laughing both at Brad and myself.“ The Australian racer shared his thoughts on the race results, saying, “I wanted to do a little better on the circuit race to be honest, but happy we pulled through on the drag race. So 1-1, we can take it.”

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing stars also expressed their excitement upon returning to Thailand for the MotoGP race weekend. “It’s fantastic to be back in Thailand,” said Miller. “I enjoy the weather, I enjoy being hot.”

He added, “The Thai people are extremely open and really friendly, even down to yesterday. Running down the road, I went for a jog to try and break the jet lag and a local guy was offering me a bottle of water. They’re just super friendly, super kind.”

For his part, Binder told fans in Thailand, “I really hope that you all enjoy the show. I hope we put on a great race for you guys!”

Amongthese beloved pastimes, Pusoy Go, along with its variants Pusoy Dos and Pusoy Plus, has emerged as atrue favorite. Now, thanks to GameZone, one of the Philippines' leading gaming platforms, this classic game has found a new home in the digital world, ready to captivate both longtime fans and curious newcomers alike.

GameZone has masterfully translated the essence of Pusoy Go into a digital format, preserving the game's core appeal while enhancing it with modern features. This digital adaptation means you can now enjoy your favorite card game anytime, anywhere, without the need for physical cards or scheduled meetups. Whether you're relaxing at home, commuting to work, or taking a coffee break, the thrill of Pusoy Go is just a few taps away.

Seamless Gaming Experience

One of the standout features of Pusoy Go on GameZone is its user-friendly interface. The platform's design prioritizes simplicity, allowing players to concentrate on the game itself instead of navigating complex controls. This intuitive design makes it simple for newcomers to jump right in, while seasoned players will appreciate the smooth, hassle-free gameplay.

The convenience doesn't stop there. With the Pusoy Go link readily available, accessing the game is a breeze. There's no requirement for protracted downloads or intricate installation procedures—just click and start playing. This accessibility opens up countless opportunities for quick gaming sessions, fitting seamlessly into even the busiest of schedules.

More Than Just a Game

While GameZone's Pusoy Go stays true to the original card game's mechanics, it also introduces exciting new elements that take the experience to the next level. Players can look forward to thrilling features like bonus rounds, which add an extra layer of excitement to each game. For those with a competitive streak, regular tournaments offer the chance to test your skills against the best players from across the Philippines and beyond.

The addition of exclusive in-game rewards adds another dimension to the gameplay. These rewards not only serve as a testament to your skill and dedication but also provide extra motivation to keep improving your game. Whether it's unique avatars, special card designs, or other virtual goodies, these rewards make every victory even sweeter.

Building Connections Through Cards

One of the most beloved aspects of traditional card games is the social interaction they foster. GameZone has gone to outstanding lengths to recreate this social atmosphere in the digital realm. The platform's robust social features make it simple to connect with other Pusoy Go enthusiasts, whether they're longtime friends or new acquaintances from across the globe.

Adding friends, joining multiplayer matches, or even setting up private game sessions with family members is simple and straightforward. The in-game chat feature allows for real-time interaction during gameplay, recreating the banter and camaraderie that make card games so enjoyable. Whether you're celebrating a brilliant play or commiserating over a tough loss, the social aspect of Pusoy Go on GameZone ensures that every game is a shared experience.

Variety is the Spice of Life

GameZone doesn't just offer one version of Pusoy; it provides a range of variants to keep things exciting. For those seeking a more challenging experience, GameZone offers Pusoy Plus, a 13-card game that has gained popularity in the Philippines. This variant requires critical thinking, strategic planning, and skillful execution, appealing to players who enjoy a game that tests their mental acuity.

For those who prefer the classic experience, Pusoy Dos is also on offer. This popular variant, typically played in groups of 2-4 players, uses a standard 52-card deck and sometimes includes jokers. The objective is to be the first to play all your cards by forming poker-like combinations in ascending order. It's a game that perfectly balances skill, strategy, and luck, making every round an exciting adventure.

Learning the ropes

One crucial aspect of Pusoy Go that these guides cover is the card rankings. In standard Pusoy, the rank follows a descending order: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, with the Ace of Spades holding the highest individual value. However, in Pusoy Dos, the rankings shift, with 2 becoming the highest card and 3 the lowest. Understanding these differences is key to developing a winning strategy in each variant.

The Thrill of Competition

For those with a competitive spirit, GameZone's Pusoy Go offers plenty of opportunities to test your mettle. Regular tournaments pit players against each other in high-stakes matches, with leaderboards showcasing the top performers. These competitions not only provide a platform for skilled players to shine but also offer exciting prizes and the chance to earn bragging rights in the Pusoy Go community.

A Growing Community

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of Pusoy Go on GameZone is the vibrant, growing community of players. From casual gamers looking for a relaxing way to pass the time to serious competitors aiming for the top of the leaderboards, the Pusoy Go community is diverse and welcoming. Regular events, forums, and social media integration help foster a sense of belonging among players, making GameZone more than just a gaming platform; it's a home for Pusoy Go enthusiasts.

The future of Pusoy Go

As GameZone continues to evolve and improve its offerings, the future of Pusoy Go looks brighter than ever. How constipation causes back pain?

MakatiMed shares ways to treat it and enjoy pain-free and “regular” holidays

Slipped disc, pinched nerve, poor posture, osteoporosis, old age, obesity, lifting heavy weights, or the dreaded undetected tumor. When your lower back hurts, you’re likely to attribute your pain to one or more of these common causes.

Nobody ever suspects constipation—and why would they? The difficult and infrequent bowel movement can leave you feeling uncomfortably bloated and with a distended tummy. But a dull and aching sensation on your lower back? Don’t discount it, says Carlo M. Cornejo, MD of the Section of Gastroenterology of the top hospital in the Philippines Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed).

“An accumulation of stool in the intestines can manifest as lower back pain. The buildup of stool can put extra pressure on the back muscles, which causes soreness and discomfort,” says the MakatiMed gastroenterologist. “So too can fecal impaction, or dry stool that gets stuck in the column or rectum. This is a complication caused by chronic constipation. It usually happens among older adults.”

Common causes of constipation include inadequate fiber, dehydration, too much alcohol, and a sedentary lifestyle. Dr. Cornejo explains that certain medications such as antihistamines, blood pressure medicines, antidepressants, and diuretics can also cause constipation.

“How often you pass stool varies from person to person. Some do it twice a day, others are fine with a thrice-weekly bowel movement,” Dr. Cornejo points out. “You’ll know you’re constipated if you experience fullness in the stomach, gassiness, straining when you sit on the toilet, and that dull lower backache.”

For the simplest case of constipation, over-the-counter laxatives and stool softeners are always available for a quick fix. But for constipation and backache that persist and recur, it’s a must to visit a doctor as it could be a serious case of fecal impaction and would require additional treatments.

“Doctors will perform a digital rectum examination where they insert a gloved and lubricated finger into the anus to check for stool buildup. In some cases, a CT scan may be required if impaction happens deep into the colon,” shares Dr. Cornejo. “Once fecal impaction is confirmed, they will manually remove the impacted stool using their finger. They may also perform enema and inject fluid into the rectum to loosen dry stool.”

To prevent constipation and fecal impaction, Dr. Cornejo advises adding more fiber-rich foods like leafy green vegetables, oatmeal, beans and legumes, papaya, prunes, and avocado to your meals; keeping hydrated or adding natural laxatives like tea or coffee for some; and working out regularly. “Some even achieve regularity by adding probiotics to their diet and minimizing their alcohol intake. These tips are especially helpful now we’re in the season of drinking and feasting,” the expert adds.

It may also help to follow a regular bowel movement schedule. Dr. Cornejo says the best time to do it is around 20-40 minutes after eating, ideally after breakfast.

“Remember, constipation or lower back pain, especially the chronic type that seems to worsen with time, is not natural, especially if you’ve already taken steps to address them. It’s your body’s way of telling you something,” says Dr. Cornejo. “Don’t tolerate it or mask it with laxatives and pain relievers. See your doctor soonest.”

DepEd and Chalkboard Launch the ARAL Program: A New Initiative to Boost Literacy and Numeracy in Public Schools

The Department of Education taps Chalkboard’s community-based ARAL Program to help enhance literacy and numeracy skills among public school children. At the MOA signing ceremony were (L-R): Georgina Yang, DepEd Assistant Secretary; Sharon Santiago, Chalkboard Marketing Director; Leandro Añonuevo, Chalkboard Director of Business Development and Partnerships; Sonny Angara, DepEd Secretary; Kristine Brown, Chalkboard Chief Executive Officer; and Albert Tablan, Chalkboard Chief

In a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the country, the Department of Education (DepEd) has entered into a formal partnership with Chalkboard, a leading provider of tutoring services, to launch the Academic Remediation, Acceleration, and Livelihood (ARAL) Program. This program seeks to address the pressing challenges in literacy and numeracy faced by Filipino students, particularly in public schools.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on October 14 at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City by DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara and Chalkboard CEO Kristine E. Brown. This partnership brings together the strengths of both the public and private sectors to promote improved educational outcomes for K-10 learners.

A Collaborative Effort for Quality Education

The ARAL Program embodies a synergistic collaboration between DepEd and Chalkboard, leveraging their combined expertise to ensure accessible, high-quality education for all Filipino learners. This partnership aligns with the government’s mandate to provide accessible, quality education as outlined in Republic Act 8525, otherwise known as the “Adopt-A-School Act of 1998,” which encourages private sector involvement in improving public education.

During the signing ceremony, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving the department’s goals. “DepEd is committed to ensuring that quality education is accessible to all Filipino learners, and this partnership with Chalkboard is a significant step toward that goal. By working together with the private sector, we can improve the academic performance and overall well-being of our students,” he noted.

Comprehensive, Evidence-Based Curriculum Powered by Advanced Technology

At the heart of the ARAL Program lies Chalkboard’s evidence-based curriculum, meticulously designed to ensure effective learning outcomes. This curriculum is grounded in the latest educational research and best practices, ensuring that each component is proven to enhance literacy and numeracy skills. A key feature of this curriculum is its integration of advanced technology to process data and inform the progress of each student.

ARAL Program Structure and Implementation

The ARAL Program employs a comprehensive, evidence-based strategy to address learning deficits exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Developed by Chalkboard, the program offers up to 25 days of targeted tutoring over six weeks, delivered through both in-person and digital platforms. This high-frequency, intensive approach is supported by research demonstrating substantial improvements in literacy and numeracy skills.

The program includes several key components:
• Personalized Learning: The tutoring sessions are tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring that every learner receives the appropriate support.
• Nutritional Support: Recognizing the connection between nutrition and learning, the ARAL Program will provide nutritious snacks or meals during each tutoring session to support students’ well-being.
• Community Upskilling and Engagement: The program involves local community members as paid tutors, creating economic opportunities while fostering a supportive educational environment.
• Holistic Development: In addition to academic support, the ARAL Program aims to develop students’ socio-emotional skills, preparing them for success both in and outside of the classroom.

Chalkboard has designed the program to be scalable and sustainable, ensuring it can be replicated in different regions and communities across the Philippines. “We believe that education is the key to unlocking the full potential of every child,” said Kristine E. Brown, CEO of Chalkboard. “The ARAL Program is our contribution to improving the educational landscape of the Philippines, particularly in addressing the learning gaps that have been exacerbated by recent challenges such as the pandemic.”

Target Beneficiaries and Community Impact

The primary beneficiaries of the ARAL Program are K-10 students in public schools, particularly those struggling with literacy and numeracy. The program’s implementation will begin with pilot schools, and its success will be measured through Chalkboard’s assessment system, supplemented by DepEd’s assessment tools.

The program not only benefits students but also the wider community. Local community members will be engaged as paid tutors or food vendors, providing them with meaningful employment opportunities while contributing to the educational success of the students.

DepEd will coordinate closely with Chalkboard to select target areas and ensure smooth program implementation. Monitoring and evaluation will be conducted throughout the program’s two-year duration to ensure that it delivers tangible and verifiable results.

A Model for Future Educational Partnerships

The ARAL Program will be funded through partnerships with private sponsors, local government units, and other supporting entities. With the support of these stakeholders, the program aims to create a lasting positive impact on the academic performance and socio-emotional development of Filipino students.

This collaboration between DepEd and Chalkboard is seen as a model for future public-private partnerships in education. Both parties are optimistic that the ARAL Program will not only help bridge current learning gaps but also lay the foundation for long-term educational improvements in the country.

CHERUBIC VOICES FROM BOHOL RECEIVE CCP’S HIGHEST ARTISTIC HONOR

ANTICIPATION filled the air as the Loboc Children’s Choir, represented by LCC musical director and conductor Alma Fernando-Taldo or Ma’am Alma, was called on stage to receive the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining award.

Part of the center's 55th anniversary, the Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining is the highest award given by CCP to artists or groups of artists in dance, music, theater, film and broadcast arts, literature, visual arts, architecture, and allied arts and design who have/had consistently produced outstanding works in their art form or have/had evolved a distinct style or technique that enriches the development of their particular art form.

Gawad-CCP-Para-sa-Sining-20Sept2024-KikoCabuena1 (790)

“Ang aking puso ay puno ng pasasalamat, galak, at pagmamahal (My heart is full of gratitude, joy, and love),” Taldo gushed. “Hindi sumagi sa aming isipan na ang ginagawa ng choir ay makakatawag ng pansin sa mga eksperto sa kultura at sining.” (It never occurred to us that what the choir is doing will attract the attention of culture and art experts.)

She told the audience that the LCC started as a simple choir of children and for children in a small and remote town of Loboc in the province of Bohol. “Ang tanging pangarap namin noon ay umawit nang buong husay para sa mga lokal na tagapakinig at komunidad (Our only dream then was to sing with our best for the local audiences and communities),” she continued.

Looking back, Taldo also confided that God had other plans for the group. “Dumating ang NAMCYA at nagbukas ng daan para maipakita ng choir ang kanilang husay sa rehiyonal at pambansang antas (NAMCYA came and opened the way for the choir to showcase their skills at the regional and national levels).” She likewise expressed her gratitude to NAMCYA for giving LCC the opportunity to practice more and get better and have enough courage to perform on the world stage.

She further explained to the audience that the Loboc children come from simple families in their community, adding that no one had thought that one day they would be traveling across the country and the world to sing to people of different races and backgrounds.

Founded in 1980, the LCC began as a modest school choir composed of children aged 9 to 13 from Loboc Central Elementary School. Over the decades, it has blossomed into one of the Philippines’ most celebrated young choral ensembles.

Armed with their exceptional talents and dedication, the choir has received various accolades and achievements, including grand prizes at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) in 1993, 1995, and 2001. Their exceptional performances, rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Bohol, have graced both national and international stages.

In 1996, the LCC embarked on a significant U.S. tour, dubbed “On Angels’ Wings: From Bohol to the World,” bringing their celestial harmonies to major cities across America. They have collaborated with distinguished musical groups, including the World Youth Orchestra and the UST Symphony Orchestra.

Their international acclaim was further highlighted when they represented the Philippines at the International Children's Culture and Arts Festival in Tianjin, China, performing in Beijing and Hong Kong. Their contributions extend locally as well, with performances for dignitaries, and tourists, and participation in community activities.

A particularly memorable milestone was their acclaimed back-to-back concert with the University of the Philippines Singing Ambassadors, who won the Gran Premio Citta di Arezzo at the 49th Concorso Polifonico Internazionale Guido d'Arezzo in Arezzo, Italy, in 2001.

The LCC's outreach extends beyond traditional venues. They perform in prisons, hospitals, orphanages, and homes for the aged, spreading messages of hope and joy through their music. Their involvement in school, town, and provincial events underscores their commitment to cultural enrichment.

The choir’s success is deeply attributed to Ma’am Alma, whose vision and dedication have been instrumental in their achievements.

Taldo reflects on the choir’s journey: “When we received the communication from CCP informing us about the award, we were very surprised and a little bit shocked. It was a pleasant surprise for all of us. We never expected it to happen to us, to be given this very prestigious award.”

Taldo recalls their triumphs, including their 2003 performance at the Europe and Its Songs Folksong Choir Festival in Barcelona, Spain, where they won a gold medal and the grand prize. “It was our first time in an international competition, so we were so happy to get these awards. We had the opportunity to sing before Pope John Paul II, who is now a saint,” said Ma’am Alma.

Watching her students grow and become well-rounded performers has been the highlight of her time with the children’s choir. She has seen former LCC members who have pursued successful musical careers and made their marks.

“We inspire each other,” she affirmed, emphasizing the mutual encouragement within the group.

Damaris Taldo is now a choir director in Italy, while Samuel Varquez has become a lead guitarist. Liz Cal shares Taldo’s passion for teaching and vocal coaching.

These former members and others underscore the impact of the Loboc Children’s Choir on young children dreaming of a better world, on the audience whose hearts they have touched, and on the communities that embrace them.

For Taldo, as long as there are young voices eager to sing, the Loboc Children’s Choir will continue its musical journey.

She identifies promising talents who could contribute to the choir’s future success, including Lea Claudia Cal from the Asian Institute for Liturgy and Music, Noel Kerr Caneda from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music, George Warloo Calipusan from St. Scholastica, and Filianne Villaflor, a member of the Philippine Madrigal Singers.

The Loboc Children's Choir was one of the recipients of the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining, the highest award given to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to Philippine arts and culture. This recognition is a testament to the LCC’s remarkable achievements and its vital role in preserving and promoting Philippine culture.
