Araneta City glows in blue for inclusion and equality

This April 2, Araneta City once again joins the global celebration of World Autism Awareness Day to reinforce its commitment to inclusivity, understanding, and appreciation of all individuals.

Every year on this day, communities worldwide unite to enhance understanding, inspire action, and provide greater support for individuals with autism. This year, the City of Firsts partnered with the Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities, Inc. (PACDLD) to come up with meaningful activities from April 2 to 4 that celebrate the talents and contributions of individuals with autism, raise awareness, and encourage community support.

"At Araneta City, inclusivity isn't just a concept. It is a daily commitment to create spaces where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and celebrated," Marjorie Go, VP for Marketing of Araneta City," said.

At Gateway Mall 2, visitors can journey through the history of autism with an engaging and informative exhibit at "Spectrum Fest: Celebrating Autism Through History and Fun." From 10 am to 5 pm on April 2 until 4, everyone is invited to explore interactive displays, enjoy inflatables, and participate in kiddie activities designed to foster understanding and joy.

Over at Gateway Mall 1, there will be the "Pages and Puppetry: Celebrating Autism Awareness Through Storytelling" event in collaboration with the National Council on Disability Affairs. From 10 am to 12 noon on April 2, this storytelling session promises to captivate hearts and open minds, helping children and adults alike understand autism through delightful narratives and puppetry.

To further shed light on this important advocacy, the Quantum Skyview at Gateway Mall 2 will glow blue at various intervals on April 2 to signify Araneta City's global solidarity and support for autism awareness. Starting at 12 noon, the lights will remind mallgoers of the color blue as the symbol of equality and inclusion for people who have autism.

Smart Araneta Coliseum will also join the worldwide observance by lighting up in blue on the evening of April 2. This annual tradition is especially significant this year, as it coincides with the Big Dome's 65th anniversary, reinforcing the role of this iconic venue as not just a place for entertainment and sports, but as a destination where everyone is celebrated and welcomed.

"Our event venues have always been a beacon of inclusion, equality, and diversity," Go emphasized. "They have proudly hosted events and initiatives that bring important advocacies to the forefront, making them not only iconic venues but also a symbol of hope and acceptance for many. We are proud to light them up in blue as we mark World Autism Awareness Day."

To further enrich the day's events, Gateway Gallery will conduct a special consultative dialogue at 1 pm for parents of newly diagnosed children with autism, and will host the annual Autism Advocate Awards at 3 pm to recognize individuals and groups who have significantly contributed to raising autism awareness and promoting inclusion. These insightful gatherings will provide a comforting space to gain valuable insights and guidance from autism advocates, fostering community support and empowerment.

“We invite everyone to join us at Araneta City in celebrating the wonderful diversity that makes our community vibrant. Let's come together to celebrate and express our support for people on the autism spectrum,” Go concluded.

Why Car Theft Tracking Should Be a Priority for Vehicle Owners

Car theft is a serious issue that continues to affect vehicle owners worldwide. The rise of sophisticated technology in modern vehicles has made them more attractive targets for thieves. As a result, protecting your vehicle from theft has never been more crucial. One of the most effective ways to safeguard your car is by using car theft tracking systems. This blog will explore why tracking your vehicle should be a priority for all car owners.

1. Reducing the Risk of Theft

The primary reason for investing in a car theft tracking system is the reduction in the likelihood of your vehicle being stolen. Many tracking systems use GPS or other forms of location tracking technology that allow you to monitor the whereabouts of your car in real time. This makes it easier for authorities to locate and recover the vehicle if stolen. The faster the recovery, the less chance a thief has of getting away with your property, potentially saving you from costly insurance claims and heartache. Investing in car theft tracking, such as car theft tracking with trackingdoctor.co.uk, can significantly enhance the security of your vehicle, providing real-time location monitoring and quick recovery in case of theft.

2. Deterrent for Thieves

A visible car theft tracking system, such as a sticker or decal indicating your vehicle is protected, can act as a powerful deterrent for thieves. Criminals are less likely to target vehicles with tracking systems, knowing that the chances of being caught are significantly higher. Just as alarm systems in homes can prevent break-ins, a tracking system can stop would-be thieves from even considering your car as an option.

3. Peace of Mind for Vehicle Owners

Knowing that your vehicle is being actively monitored brings a sense of security and peace of mind. Whether you're at home, at work, or out running errands, you can rest assured that you can quickly track your car's location if it's ever stolen. Many car theft tracking systems also come with features such as mobile apps that send alerts to your phone if the vehicle moves without authorization. This real-time alert system ensures that you stay informed and can take action promptly.

4. Enhanced Recovery Rates

The faster you can alert authorities to a stolen vehicle, the higher the chances of recovery. With a GPS-based tracking system, law enforcement can pinpoint your vehicle's location almost immediately, making it easier for them to retrieve the car before it's damaged or dismantled. In fact, studies have shown that vehicles equipped with tracking systems have a significantly higher recovery rate compared to those without.

5. Insurance Benefits

Some insurance companies offer discounts to vehicle owners who have a car theft tracking system in place. This is because these systems reduce the risk of a car being stolen and enhance the likelihood of recovery. By investing in a tracking system, you not only improve your vehicle's security but could also save money on your insurance premiums. Over time, this can add up to substantial savings.

6. Protection Against Joyriders

Not all car thefts are committed by professional criminals. Sometimes, vehicles are stolen by individuals looking to use them for a short period or by joyriders. Car theft tracking systems can help quickly locate these vehicles and prevent further damage or misuse. This is especially important for owners of high-end or luxury vehicles, which are often targeted by individuals seeking to use them temporarily.

Conclusion

Investing in a car theft tracking system is an essential step for vehicle owners who want to protect their property and enjoy peace of mind. The benefits, from reducing theft risk and deterring criminals to improving recovery rates and potentially lowering insurance costs, make it a wise investment. In today's world, where vehicle theft is a growing concern, tracking your car should no longer be an option – it should be a priority.

Why You’re Never Too Old to Try New Things

Many people mistakenly believe that aging means slowing down and sticking to familiar routines. However, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, exploring new experiences and hobbies in later life offers countless benefits for both the mind and body. Whether it’s learning a new skill, traveling to an unfamiliar place, or simply stepping out of your comfort zone, trying new things is enriching at any age.

The Benefits of New Experiences in Later Life

1. Boosting Mental Health and Cognitive Function

Challenging yourself with new activities is a fantastic way to keep your brain sharp. Studies show that learning unfamiliar skills, such as playing an instrument, painting, or even speaking a new language, helps improve memory and cognitive function. This mental stimulation reduces the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by creating new neural pathways.

2. Improving Physical Health

Trying new things doesn’t have to mean extreme sports or high-impact activities. Gentle pursuits, such as yoga, dance, or even walking clubs, can improve mobility, balance, and overall physical fitness. Taking up gardening, swimming, or tai chi can add gentle movement to your routine, promoting cardiovascular health and joint flexibility.

3. Strengthening Social Connections

New activities often lead to new friendships. Whether you join a book club, attend a fitness class, or take up a craft workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to meet like-minded people. Social engagement is essential in later life, as it reduces feelings of loneliness and boosts emotional well-being.

Breaking Free from Routine

One of the greatest gifts of later life is the freedom to explore interests you may not have had time for previously. With fewer work commitments or family obligations, many older adults find they can finally prioritize their passions. This freedom is a chance to reinvent yourself, whether through travel, creative expression, or lifelong learning.

Rediscovering Creativity and Curiosity

Many people in their 60s, 70s, and beyond develop a renewed curiosity about the world. From enrolling in cooking classes to experimenting with photography or pottery, the possibilities are endless. Trying new creative outlets not only brings joy but also offers a therapeutic and meditative experience.

Overcoming the Fear of the Unknown

It’s natural to feel hesitant about stepping into unfamiliar territory, especially as we age. However, embracing change with a positive mindset can be incredibly empowering. Even small, manageable steps—such as trying a new recipe, learning to use a tablet, or exploring a nearby walking trail—can provide a sense of achievement and boost your confidence.

Finding Support in the Right Environment

For those living in residential care, the opportunity to try new things is often more accessible than you might think. Many care homes in Wiltshire with The Westbury Care Home, for example, offer diverse activity programs designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. From arts and crafts workshops to gentle fitness classes and day trips, these experiences create meaningful opportunities for residents to continue learning and enjoying life.

Age Is Just a Number

Ultimately, you’re never too old to embrace new experiences. Whether it’s picking up a paintbrush, joining a community choir, or traveling somewhere new, trying new things can enrich your life at any stage. So, go ahead—step out of your comfort zone and rediscover the joy of curiosity.

Looking After Your Mental Health in Your Later Years

As people get older, maintaining good mental health is just as important as looking after your physical well-being. Later years often bring significant life changes, including retirement, loss of loved ones, and possible health challenges. While these transitions can sometimes impact emotional well-being, there are many ways to nurture and protect your mental health as you grow older.

Stay Socially Connected

Isolation and loneliness are common problems for older adults, and they can have a profound effect on mental health. Staying socially active can significantly boost mood and reduce the risk of depression. Consider joining local clubs, attending community events, or participating in group activities. Even small, regular interactions, such as chatting with neighbors or making phone calls to family, can provide meaningful social connections. For those in need of more regular support, moving into a care home in Fareham can offer a community-focused environment, fostering companionship and daily social interaction.

Keep Your Mind Active

Taking part in mentally stimulating activities is essential for maintaining cognitive function. Puzzles, reading, learning new skills, or playing board games can help keep the mind sharp. Many older adults also find enjoyment in creative hobbies like painting, writing, or gardening, which can be therapeutic and fulfilling. Additionally, technology offers access to online courses and brain-training apps, making it easier than ever to continue learning.

Prioritize Physical Activity

Regular exercise is beneficial for physical health and also for mental well-being. Physical activity releases endorphins, the brain’s “feel-good” chemicals, which help alleviate stress and anxiety. Walking, yoga, swimming, or even gentle stretching exercises can improve mood and promote better sleep—both of which are vital for mental health.

Adopt a Healthy Diet

Diet is very important for overall well-being. Consuming a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can support brain health. Omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts are particularly beneficial for cognitive function. Staying hydrated is equally important, as dehydration can contribute to confusion and irritability.

Seek Professional Support When Needed

It is natural to feel low or anxious occasionally, but persistent changes in mood, sleep, or energy levels should not be ignored. Getting support from a mental health professional or doctor is important. Talking therapies, like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), can be particularly useful for managing anxiety or depression.

Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation

Mindfulness and relaxation techniques can be great for reducing stress and promoting emotional well-being. Practices such as meditation, breathing exercises, and gentle yoga can help you stay calm and in the moment. Even spending time in nature or listening to soothing music can enhance your sense of peace and contentment.

Maintain a Routine and Sense of Purpose

Having a daily routine gives you structure and stability, which can be comforting. Setting small, achievable goals—whether it’s a daily walk, a creative project, or volunteer work—can give a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

Final Thoughts

Looking after your mental health in later life involves nurturing social connections, staying physically and mentally active, and seeking support when needed. Whether you’re living independently or considering the supportive environment of a care home, prioritizing your emotional well-being will enhance your quality of life and help you embrace your later years with positivity and resilience.

FREE Puppet Show on Jesus Christ for Kids as Papet Pasyon 2025 comes home to CCP

Papet Pasyon. Ang bata at si Hesus.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines and Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas present PAPET PASYON 2025, at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez on April 6, 2025, for two performances at 2:30pm and 6pm.

Papet Pasyon. Sina Hesus at Maria

Written by National Artist for Theater Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, Papet Pasyon 2025 features and explores in its storytelling, the important moments during the Holy Week. It begins with Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, His outburst at the Temple, His miracles, His agony in the garden at Gethsemane, His final supper with His twelve disciples, Judas’ betrayal, Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection on Easter Sunday. A young boy who received a miracle from Jesus acts as a central storyteller in this play based on Biblical passages and Filipino tradition during Holy Week.

This puppet play is a celebration, a feast of traditions and heritage of the Filipino people. Papet Pasyon 2025 is a senakulo, a folk-religious and theatrical retelling of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It features wooden puppets, smithed by master woodcarvers of the woodcarving town of Paete in Laguna.

Papet Pasyon. Herusalem.

Teatrong Mulat continues the panata initiated by Lapeña-Bonifacio in 1985. First staged at the CCP, Papet Pasyon has been performed annually in various venues such as churches, schools, and other performing spaces in Metro Manila and Bulacan until it found its permanent home at the Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Teatro Papet Museo in Teacher’s Village, Quezon City, in 2006.

At the height of the pandemic in 2021 and 2022, Teatrong Mulat produced two stage-to-film versions, which were live-streamed on the official Facebook page of Teatrong Mulat. In 2023, Papet Pasyon was staged at the recently renovated Metropolitan Theater of Manila.

Marking its 40th anniversary, Papet Pasyon 2025 returns to where it all began – at the CCP –  welcoming both seasoned and new generations of Mulateers (as the Mulat Theater puppeteers are fondly called) to continue their decades-long panata each Lenten season.

Directed by Teatrong Mulat artistic director, Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete, Papet Pasyon 2025 has undergone numerous updates over the years from the length of the texts and the wooden rod
puppets to the incorporation of shadow play elements and voice-over recordings; each innovation has helped the play stand the test of time.

Amid its constant evolution, Papet Pasyon 2025 has remained steadfast in its original vision since its debut 40 years ago: to present the senakulo through the art of puppetry, bringing the passion of Jesus Christ closer to new and younger generations of audiences.

The puppet play features an ensemble of puppeteers, comprised of Bonifacio-Ramolete, Raymund Ramolete, Roel Ramolete, siglo, Arvy Dimaculangan, Shenn Apilado, Khen Del Prado, Nour Hooshmand, Mina Camacho, Janno Castillo, Hazelle Catena, Ayeesha Cuerpo, Anna Dalet, Ravelyn Dar Juan, Vinzar Rubi, Harvey Sallador, and V Soriano.

Sharing their vocal talents to bring to life the different biblical characters are Esteban Mara Fulay, Jr., Greg de Leon, Jessamae Gabon, Carlito Camahalan Amalla, Pau Benitez, Fitz Edward Torres Bitana, Darwin Desoacido, Kenneth del Prado, Jules dela Paz, Arvy Flores Dimaculangan, Rej Duka, Marynor Madamesila, Christelle Manuel, Jessette Gonzales Namin, Marvin Olaes, Vincent Kevin Pajara, Aina Ramolete, Katte Sabate, Gabo Tolentino, and Jamee Stevana Vega.

The artistic and production team of Papet Pasyon 2025 include: playwright and puppet designer NA Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, director Amihan Bonifacio-Ramolete, music director Rodolfo de Leon, puppet designers Bernadette Solina-Wolf, Maurice Carvajal, Joji Pamintuan, Carol Castro, Romerico Romero, and Carlito Amalla, puppet sculptors Paloy Cagayat and Jeriel Madrigal, set designer Ohm David, costume designer Darwin Desoacido, shadow play designer siglo, sound designer and editor Arvy Dimaculangan, audio engineer Jessamae Gabon, light designer and technical director Satya Edilo, video designer/editor Steven Tansiongco, poster designer and assistant stage manager V Soriano, stage manager Shania Lee Cuerpo, production manager Janno Castillo, and production assistant Malvin Abadinas.

Philippine Ballet Theatre presents "The Merry Widow"

For its first season production, the Philippine Ballet Theatre presents "The Merry Widow"—a delightful tale brimming with tangled relationships, near misses, and jealous lovers. Originally premiered as an operetta by Franz Lehár in Vienna in 1905 "The Merry Widow" has inspired numerous choreographic adaptations by ballet companies around the world. Set in Paris, the city of love, it explores themes of forbidden and rekindled love, wealth, and deceit.

In its version, "The Merry Widow" is skillfully choreographed and presented by Philippine Ballet Theatre’s Artistic Director, Ronilo Jaynario, in a way that is sure to resonate with the Filipino audience’s appreciation for passion and drama. The dancers showcase their talents in classical ballet, character dance, mime, and theatrical acting. Franz Lehár’s exquisite melodies will transport audiences to a world of romance, wit, and opulence in "The Merry Widow" where every note celebrates love and elegance.

This ballet has been a true gem for the company. It’s inclusion in the season is an homage to its roots; unbeknownst to many, "The Merry Widow" was among the first ballets ever performed by the company. Former Artistic Director Julie Borromeo's version premiered in 1987, making waves and establishing PBT as a company with a sophisticated repertoire and innovative approach. It set the tone for what was to come. Almost four decades later, the ballet remains a testament to the vision of the founders: a company capable of competing globally with both Filipino works and classical repertoire. With hopes high, this fifth restaging aims to reaffirm that legacy.

Philippine Ballet Theatre's The Merry Widow

As a company guided by an artistic council, continuing the tradition of rich taste, innovation, and undeniable skill is of utmost importance. Through this ballet, PBT wishes to honor PBT's founding members, expressing gratitude for setting the course toward the PBT of today, the National Performing Arts Company for ballet and contemporary dance. This production is lovingly dedicated to the eleven founding members: Julie Borromeo, Felicitas Radaic, Steve Villaruz, Gener Caringal, Eddie Elejar, Leonor-Orosa Goquinco, Vella Damian, Sony Lopez-Gonzales, the late Tony Fabella, the late Eric Cruz, and the late Inday Gaston- Manosa. Their pursuit of a fresh approach to ballet remains the guiding light for PBT. It's a fitting ballet to start the year right.

Casted members are all debuting in their respective roles. Jimmy Lumba will take on the lead role of Count Danilo Danilovistch, while Jessa Tangalin will portray the elusive Hanna Glawari. The role of Count Camille de Rosillon will be shared by Julafer Fegarido and Justine Joseph Orande, with Sophia Martina Tiangco and Gabbie Jaynario alternating as Valencienne. Bringing humor to the production, veterans Anatoly Panasyukov and Joel Matias will play Baron Mirko Zeta and Njegus, respectively.

Thanks to Philippine Ballet Theatre’s (PBT) partner, Philippine Airlines, and the support of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the

National Performing Arts Companies, PBT will have a special limited run at the Samsung Performing Arts Theatre. The production opens on April 5, 2025, with a matinee at 3:00 PM and a gala performance at 7:30 PM. It concludes on April 6 with a final matinee at 3:00 PM. Joyously romantic, this enchanting production promises to sweep audiences off their feet.
