Experience the Richness of Filipino Flavor at the 2025 DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Food Fair

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the official opening ceremony of the 2025 DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Food Fair, a five-day celebration of Filipino culinary heritage and innovation. From L-R: SM Investments Corporation Vice Chairman Tessie Sy-Coson, Department of  Tourism Secretary Christina G. Frasco, First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go, and William Vincent A. Marcos.

Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the 2025 DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Food Fair is a vibrant celebration of Filipino heritage, culinary creativity, and entrepreneurship. The fair brings together over 250 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from all corners of the country to showcase the very best of Philippine food and beverage products.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. walked through the national Food Fair, taking time to talk to the MSMEs and taste some of the food offerings.

In his message of support, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized the event’s significance, saying: “This national food fair is more than a gastronomic celebration of our rich and diverse culinary heritage. It is a testament to the incredible talent, ingenuity, and industry of our local farmers and artisans who bring pride and honor to our country.”

In her keynote address, Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina A. Roque echoed the importance of supporting Filipino enterprises. “From the prized heirloom rice and coffee of the Cordilleras, to the artisanal chocolate of Mindanao, and the delightful fruit wines and kakanin of the Visayas—our unparalleled regional food heritage takes center stage,” she said. “Through this fair, we reaffirm that heritage cuisine is not just about tradition—it is about innovation, preservation, and sustainability”

A significant highlight of this year’s fair is the launch of the DTI Bagong Pilipinas Marketplace, the country’s largest B2B e-commerce platform dedicated to Philippine MSMEs. This platform aims to connect local entrepreneurs with institutional buyers and wholesale partners, both nationally and internationally, fostering a dynamic and inclusive digital ecosystem.

This aligns with the government’s Tatak Pinoy Strategy, a bold initiative to strengthen the country’s industrial capacity and elevate the global competitiveness of locally made products.

Anchored on innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth, Tatak Pinoy empowers Filipino businesses—especially MSMEs—to move up the value chain, penetrate larger markets, and contribute more significantly to national development. By cultivating industries that reflect Filipino excellence, the strategy supports a future where high-quality Philippine products are not only locally celebrated but globally recognized.

The fair also features themed pavilions such as the Fresh Produce Grand Marketplace, KAPEtirya: Philippine Coffee Pavilion, and KAINAN: Onsite Dining Area, offering immersive culinary experiences. Daily activities include live cooking demonstrations by renowned chefs, wine-mixing and food-pairing sessions, business dialogues, and cultural performances.

A Jeffrey Ching classic and soloist Andrea Obiso in PPO Concert VII: FINALE

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) masterfully closes its 40th concert season, dubbed Forte, featuring internationally acclaimed soloist Andrea Obiso and a new concerto from Jeffrey Ching, on April 11, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City.

PPO Concert VII: Finale will be an evening of compelling orchestral works under the baton of Maestro Grzegorz Nowak.

Another classic from PPO’s first composer-in-residence Jeffrey Ching

The PPO Concert VII: Finale commences with composer Jeffrey Ching’s “Concerto for Orchestra,” a newly commissioned work by the orchestra. At the invitation of Maestro Nowak, Ching became the PPO’s first composer-in-residence.

Studying music, Sinology, and Philosophy at Harvard, Cambridge, and London, Ching was the composer-in-residence at the Tongyeong International Music Festival (2010), the Singapore International Festival of Music (2016), and the Mendigorría International Music Festival in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2023.

One of his operas, “Before Brabant,” was first staged at the Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2013. Under the direction of multi-nominated Alberto Rodriguez, it received premier animation and lighting effects. It was showcased at the CCP Children’s Biennale in Manila in November 2024.

Armed by his fondness for historical narratives, Ching wrote over 300 compositions. In 2010, his opera “Das Waisenkind” won the Theater Erfurt Audience Prize in Germany. It was also nominated for the Kyoto Prize as it blended Eastern and Western traditions through music.

Renowned soloist Andrea Obiso graces PPO Concert VII: Finale

Italian violinist Andrea Obiso joins PPO Concert VII: Finale for a night of dreamy melodies. Since 2020, he has served as Concertmaster of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He has also performed with top orchestras, including the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the Bayerische Rundfunk Symphonie Orchester.

Obiso toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and the USA as a distinguished soloist. With technical skills helmed by masters Boris Belkin and Midori Goto, his repertoire spans over 30 violin concertos.

Playing a Joseph Guarneri del Gesù violin crafted in 1741, Obiso carries 284 years of musical history with him in each performance.

For PPO Concert VII: Finale, Obiso interprets Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Violin Concerto No. 3”. Saint-Saëns was already 45 years old when he finished writing the composition. Integrating virtuosity in three parts, he demonstrated refined musicality in the piece. The violin is immediately put into action with his luminous writing. Slowly, Violin Concerto No. 3 ascends to a solo recitative, perfectly sustaining the orchestra’s momentum.

The staccato rhythm of Saint-Saëns’ piece continues PPO Concert VII: Finale with Spanish flavor through Georges Bizet’s “Carmen Suite”. Derived from Bizet’s operatic masterpiece of the same title, the atmospheric composition includes five instrumental sections describing a gypsy woman and her fiery love for freedom. Bizet’s Carmen Suite closes the curtains of PPO Concert VII: Finale with its score bursting with passion.

PPO Concert VII: Finale marks a remarkable beginning for the orchestra. The momentous closing of the orchestra’s 40th season brings another milestone as PPO gears for a nine-concert tour in the United Kingdom in May.

Join the PPO for a night of soaring melodies on April 11, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Makati City. Now available at TicketWorld, tickets are priced at Php 3,000, Php 2,500, Php 2,000, and Php 1,500. Enjoy up to 20 percent discount as a PPO Subscriber. For more information, email salesandpromotions@culturalcenter.gov.ph or call the CCP Box Office at +63931-033-0880.

Ride safe, ride smart: tactical road safety tips for women riders

Riding solo gives women a sense of freedom and control, but let’s be real—it also comes with risks that male riders don’t face as often. From unwanted attention to outright harassment, female riders deal with challenges that require more than just standard safety advice. That’s why MDPPA, through the “Tropang MAALAM” initiative, are here to share real, actionable strategies to help women riders stay safe, sharp, and unstoppable on the road.

Situational awareness: more than just “stay alert”
Women riders aren’t just watching out for reckless drivers—they’re also watching their backs in ways men don’t always think about. Here’s how to stay one step ahead of any potential threat:

The “360-degree” road scanning rule: Do a quick check of your mirrors and surroundings. Is anyone tailing you too closely? Are you getting unwanted attention from another rider? Staying ahead means staying unpredictable.

 Stoplight strategy: If you're at a stoplight and someone starts harassing you, don't engage. When in doubt, safely assess your surroundings, focus on where you want to go, and avoid eye contact. Predators look for riders who seem unsure or vulnerable—project confidence.

 Ride like you have a destination: Even if you’re lost, never look lost. Avoid stopping in unfamiliar, isolated areas. Instead, pull into a well-lit, public place like a gas station.

Bilang Tropang MAALAM: how male riders can help keep the roads safe for women Safety on the road isn’t just a woman’s responsibility—it’s everyone’s. As part of Tropang MAALAM, male riders play a key role in creating a riding culture that respects and protects women. If you’re a male rider, here’s how you can help:

Respect personal space: Keep a comfortable distance when riding near female riders, both on the road and at stoplights.

 Avoid unnecessary attention: A friendly nod? Cool. A thumbs-up for good riding? Sure. Staring, whistling, or persistent attempts to get a female rider’s attention? Not cool.

 Don’t pressure women on the road: Some riders unintentionally pressure women by speeding past them or cutting them off. Some female riders may be new to riding or prefer a different pace. Give them space instead of intimidating them with aggressive riding.

 Offer help the right way: If a female rider is having motorcycle trouble, ask first: “Kailangan mo ba ng tulong?” instead of stepping in uninvited.

 Call out inappropriate behavior: If you see other riders harassing a female motorist, speak up. Being a good rider means standing up for what’s right.

By promoting respect, awareness, and support, male riders can help make the streets safer for
everyone—regardless of gender.

A safe and enjoyable ride is something every member of the riding community contributes to. By staying aware, riding smart, and looking out for one another, we create a road environment where everyone, including women riders, can feel confident and secure.

How to Choose the Best Skincare Products for Your Needs

The key to a successful skincare routine lies in understanding your skin's unique needs and choosing products that align with those needs. Here's a new approach to help you pick the best skincare products for your routine.

Focus on Skin Health, Not Just Appearance

While many skincare products focus on quick fixes for visible concerns, prioritizing your skin's long-term health is important. Healthy skin is resilient and balanced, so selecting products that help maintain and support its natural function is essential. Look for products that strengthen the skin barrier, protect it from environmental stressors, and support its regenerative process.

For instance, products with antioxidants, like vitamin E or green tea extract, can help your skin defend against pollution and UV damage.

Start With a Simple Routine

When building a skincare routine, it's easy to get tempted by all the latest products and multi-step regimens. However, starting with a simple routine can help you gauge your skin's needs before committing to additional products. Stick with the basics: a gentle cleanser, a good moisturizer, and an SPF. Once your skin adjusts to these, you can gradually introduce serums or treatments.

This approach prevents overwhelming your skin with too many active ingredients and reduces the risk of irritation from product overload.

Consider the Season and Environmental Factors

Your skin's needs can change depending on the season and the environment you're in. For example, during the winter months, when the air is dry, you may need richer moisturisers or hydrating masks to prevent your skin from becoming parched. On the other hand, in hotter climates or summer months, you might want to opt for lightweight, non-comedogenic products that won't clog pores.

Pay attention to how your skin responds to different environmental factors, and tailor your routine accordingly.

Think About the Application Process

How a product feels during and after application is an often-overlooked factor in choosing the best skincare for your needs. The texture, scent, and absorption rate can play a role in whether you will stick to using it consistently. For example, a thick cream might feel heavy on oily skin, while a lightweight serum may not provide enough moisture for dry skin.

Choose products with textures and delivery systems that make you feel comfortable and confident, as consistency is crucial for long-term results.

Prioritize Non-Toxic and Sustainable Ingredients

More consumers are becoming aware of skincare ingredients' impact on personal health and the environment. Opting for products with non-toxic, cruelty-free, and sustainably sourced ingredients can enhance your skin's well-being and contribute to a healthier planet. For example, Medik8 cosmeceuticals offers a range of products that focus on clean beauty and transparency in ingredient sourcing, ensuring you can make mindful choices for your skincare routine.

Take Your Time and Be Patient

The journey to healthy skin doesn't happen overnight. Being patient and allowing your products to work over time is essential. This applies particularly to treatments for concerns like acne, pigmentation, or fine lines, which may take several weeks or even months to show noticeable improvement.

Avoid jumping from one product to another too quickly if you don't see immediate results. Consistency, rather than rapid change, is key to achieving lasting benefits.

Seek Guidance from Skin Professionals

While self-research and trial-and-error can be valuable tools, consulting with a dermatologist or skincare professional can provide an extra layer of confidence when choosing the right products. A professional can help assess your skin's needs and even help address any underlying skin conditions that may require a more targeted approach.

Conclusion

By simplifying your routine, considering environmental factors, and prioritizing non-toxic ingredients, you can create a regimen that addresses your skin's immediate needs and helps maintain its overall health. And with patience and professional advice, you'll be on your way to healthier, more radiant skin.

Araneta City glows in blue for inclusion and equality

This April 2, Araneta City once again joins the global celebration of World Autism Awareness Day to reinforce its commitment to inclusivity, understanding, and appreciation of all individuals.

Every year on this day, communities worldwide unite to enhance understanding, inspire action, and provide greater support for individuals with autism. This year, the City of Firsts partnered with the Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities, Inc. (PACDLD) to come up with meaningful activities from April 2 to 4 that celebrate the talents and contributions of individuals with autism, raise awareness, and encourage community support.

"At Araneta City, inclusivity isn't just a concept. It is a daily commitment to create spaces where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and celebrated," Marjorie Go, VP for Marketing of Araneta City," said.

At Gateway Mall 2, visitors can journey through the history of autism with an engaging and informative exhibit at "Spectrum Fest: Celebrating Autism Through History and Fun." From 10 am to 5 pm on April 2 until 4, everyone is invited to explore interactive displays, enjoy inflatables, and participate in kiddie activities designed to foster understanding and joy.

Over at Gateway Mall 1, there will be the "Pages and Puppetry: Celebrating Autism Awareness Through Storytelling" event in collaboration with the National Council on Disability Affairs. From 10 am to 12 noon on April 2, this storytelling session promises to captivate hearts and open minds, helping children and adults alike understand autism through delightful narratives and puppetry.

To further shed light on this important advocacy, the Quantum Skyview at Gateway Mall 2 will glow blue at various intervals on April 2 to signify Araneta City's global solidarity and support for autism awareness. Starting at 12 noon, the lights will remind mallgoers of the color blue as the symbol of equality and inclusion for people who have autism.

Smart Araneta Coliseum will also join the worldwide observance by lighting up in blue on the evening of April 2. This annual tradition is especially significant this year, as it coincides with the Big Dome's 65th anniversary, reinforcing the role of this iconic venue as not just a place for entertainment and sports, but as a destination where everyone is celebrated and welcomed.

"Our event venues have always been a beacon of inclusion, equality, and diversity," Go emphasized. "They have proudly hosted events and initiatives that bring important advocacies to the forefront, making them not only iconic venues but also a symbol of hope and acceptance for many. We are proud to light them up in blue as we mark World Autism Awareness Day."

To further enrich the day's events, Gateway Gallery will conduct a special consultative dialogue at 1 pm for parents of newly diagnosed children with autism, and will host the annual Autism Advocate Awards at 3 pm to recognize individuals and groups who have significantly contributed to raising autism awareness and promoting inclusion. These insightful gatherings will provide a comforting space to gain valuable insights and guidance from autism advocates, fostering community support and empowerment.

“We invite everyone to join us at Araneta City in celebrating the wonderful diversity that makes our community vibrant. Let's come together to celebrate and express our support for people on the autism spectrum,” Go concluded.

Why Car Theft Tracking Should Be a Priority for Vehicle Owners

Car theft is a serious issue that continues to affect vehicle owners worldwide. The rise of sophisticated technology in modern vehicles has made them more attractive targets for thieves. As a result, protecting your vehicle from theft has never been more crucial. One of the most effective ways to safeguard your car is by using car theft tracking systems. This blog will explore why tracking your vehicle should be a priority for all car owners.

1. Reducing the Risk of Theft

The primary reason for investing in a car theft tracking system is the reduction in the likelihood of your vehicle being stolen. Many tracking systems use GPS or other forms of location tracking technology that allow you to monitor the whereabouts of your car in real time. This makes it easier for authorities to locate and recover the vehicle if stolen. The faster the recovery, the less chance a thief has of getting away with your property, potentially saving you from costly insurance claims and heartache. Investing in car theft tracking, such as car theft tracking with trackingdoctor.co.uk, can significantly enhance the security of your vehicle, providing real-time location monitoring and quick recovery in case of theft.

2. Deterrent for Thieves

A visible car theft tracking system, such as a sticker or decal indicating your vehicle is protected, can act as a powerful deterrent for thieves. Criminals are less likely to target vehicles with tracking systems, knowing that the chances of being caught are significantly higher. Just as alarm systems in homes can prevent break-ins, a tracking system can stop would-be thieves from even considering your car as an option.

3. Peace of Mind for Vehicle Owners

Knowing that your vehicle is being actively monitored brings a sense of security and peace of mind. Whether you're at home, at work, or out running errands, you can rest assured that you can quickly track your car's location if it's ever stolen. Many car theft tracking systems also come with features such as mobile apps that send alerts to your phone if the vehicle moves without authorization. This real-time alert system ensures that you stay informed and can take action promptly.

4. Enhanced Recovery Rates

The faster you can alert authorities to a stolen vehicle, the higher the chances of recovery. With a GPS-based tracking system, law enforcement can pinpoint your vehicle's location almost immediately, making it easier for them to retrieve the car before it's damaged or dismantled. In fact, studies have shown that vehicles equipped with tracking systems have a significantly higher recovery rate compared to those without.

5. Insurance Benefits

Some insurance companies offer discounts to vehicle owners who have a car theft tracking system in place. This is because these systems reduce the risk of a car being stolen and enhance the likelihood of recovery. By investing in a tracking system, you not only improve your vehicle's security but could also save money on your insurance premiums. Over time, this can add up to substantial savings.

6. Protection Against Joyriders

Not all car thefts are committed by professional criminals. Sometimes, vehicles are stolen by individuals looking to use them for a short period or by joyriders. Car theft tracking systems can help quickly locate these vehicles and prevent further damage or misuse. This is especially important for owners of high-end or luxury vehicles, which are often targeted by individuals seeking to use them temporarily.

Conclusion

Investing in a car theft tracking system is an essential step for vehicle owners who want to protect their property and enjoy peace of mind. The benefits, from reducing theft risk and deterring criminals to improving recovery rates and potentially lowering insurance costs, make it a wise investment. In today's world, where vehicle theft is a growing concern, tracking your car should no longer be an option – it should be a priority.
